Herefordshire Music Service is launching a new County Youth Choir as part of its ’Herefordshire Youth Music’ ensemble provision.
The choir will rehearse for the first time in January 2017. Rehearsals for this non-auditioned choir, for young people from ages 7 to 21, will take place at Hereford Sixth Form College on most Saturday mornings through the Spring Term, between 12pm and 1pm.
The choir will sing a wide variety of music and will be led by local professional singers Jon Weller and Hannah West. The inaugural concert of the choir will be as part of a joint concert with Herefordshire Youth Concert Band on Saturday, April 1st at Leominster Priory.
Jon Weller, Manager of HYM and Director of the Youth Choir, told the Ross Gazette: “Herefordshire is steeped in musical history and it is vital that we continue to encourage our young people to make music to keep that going.
"Herefordshire Youth Choir will become an integrated part of everything we offer at Herefordshire Youth Music. It’s a very much needed addition and one that I am sure will be a wonderful new opportunity for our children and young people.”
Herefordshire Youth Music has a number of ensembles for young people, such as the Herefordshire Youth Orchestra and Herefordshire Brass Band, who rehearse on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings respectively, in Hereford Shirehall.
A thriving Saturday morning Music Centre has a range of progressive ensembles – concert bands and string orchestras. There is also a Ukulele Ensemble for our younger members and Music Theory tuition.
HYM Open Morning will be held on Saturday, November 5th for current parents, prospective parents and anyone else who is interested in hearing all the exciting ensembles.
