HEREFORDSHIRE Council is continuing its additional investment in the county’s roads, with a programme of resurfacing works taking place throughout June that will focus on improving the health of some key B-roads.

The council is investing an additional £13.5 million into the county’s highway network in the current financial year, with a number of schemes scheduled for June:

These include the B4225, from the A449 to B4224 at Old Gore; the B4224 from Bromsash to South Hereford Golf Club; the B4224 from the U70244 to Bromsash and the B4224 through Bromsash Village.

Cllr Barry Durkin, cabinet member for roads and regulatory services, said: “The maintenance and improvement of our roads is an absolute top priority for the council, with the aim of improving the network’s resilience and delivering better journeys for local people, as well as visitors and trade vehicles.

“I am delighted works are progressing well and look forward to seeing these June works completed and building upon our record of success.

“We are committed to delivering the best possible road network for Herefordshire, which is why we are investing a further additional £13.5million for improvement works for 2025/26, building upon our additional £8million investment last year.”

● The A40 westbound between Whitchurch and the Dixton roundabout in Monmouth will be closed overnight on June 6 and 7 June to allow for drainage repairs that were identified as urgent in March this year.

The drains on the eastbound carriageway were repaired under emergency closures to ensure the continued serviceability of the A40.

National Highways are now returning to repair the drains on the westbound carriageway, under overnight closures.

A40 HGV through traffic will be diverted via the M5 and M4 while local traffic will be diverted up the A49 towards Hereford, before then travelling on the A465 towards Abergavenny, and then rejoining the A40 towards Monmouth.
