Ross-on-Wye gardener, Peter Dowle, who has won gold at the RHS Chelsea Garden Show, is donating his time and design skills to create a new centre bed in the courtyard of the Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, Cheltenham.

And, following a donation from the Cleeve Cloud Golf Club 2015 Charity Tournament to fund the plants, the new garden is coming to life this month with a special planting ceremony attended by hospice gardening volunteers, patients and staff.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show style design by Peter Dowle replaces an old rose border in the hospice’s main courtyard, bringing colour and texture for all to enjoy throughout the year.

To retain a connection to the hospice’s history the bed rocks are blocks of stone from the original 13th Century manor house, many of which retain the marks from the stone masons who handcrafted them.

Elise Hoadley, Hospice Director at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice said, “We’re so grateful to Peter for donating his time to design this stunning new centre piece and to the golf club for the funds bringing it to life. Remaining money from their donation will be put towards a new hoist in our Day Hospice, helping us to deliver incredible care for local people with a life limiting condition.”

John Millington, Head Gardener at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice said, “We wanted to create something for our patients and visitors to look at and enjoy throughout the year, with colour in every season and the use of grasses creating something to hear too.”
