The work of a Ross-on-Wye charity, The Basement Youth Trust, is being recognised; there will be a reception at The House of Lords on November 25th, and Keith and Sue Wilding, the trustees, have each received an invitation to the ceremony.
Keith and Sue received their invitation from Barclays Foundation in recognition of the work the BYT has done at Ross Skatepark. Keith and Sue will represent over 200 organisations that have benefitted from the investment of Barclays in Spaces for Sports in the UK.
In Ross, BYT have used the Barclays funding to provide sessions of wheeled sports for young people at Ross Skatepark over the last three summers.
Barclays advisors indicated that they are impressed with the projects that have run in Ross and at with way the BYT has linked with Ross Town Council and EnviroAbility to improve the facility and keep it in a good state of repair.
Keith told the Ross Gazette: “Being invited to attend a House of Lords reception is a great honour and it is gratifying to receive recognition for all the hard work of the Trustees and Staff of the BYT.”
As well as these skatepark sessions, The Basement Youth Trust runs drop-in sessions for young people aged between 11 and 18 every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm until 8pm at The Venue on Hill Street. These sessions are free of charge and provide a place for young people to meet and take part in recreational activities.
