Author Phil Rickman referred to some of the convuluted plots in his popular novels set in the county when he declared that 'it was the council' which was responsible. However on this occasion, on Saturday, February 4th, he was joining other Ross library users in praising Herefordshire Council for their part in the refurbishment of the library.

Mr Rickman, Quentin Letts and Jon and Heather Hurley were special guests at Ross Library on National Library Day. They joined library staff and Herefordshire Councillors in celebrating the fact that the library is now able to be used more extensively.

Elinor Kelly, the chairman of the Library Development Group was unable to attend but Dr Michael Kelly stood in for her. He thanked Herefordshire Council for listening to their requests and recommendations and providing the best they could despite less money being available. The library has been reconfigured to provide exhibition and display space in the former Denis Potter Room. The Library Development Group hopes that they will one day be able to find the funds to carry out the rest of their plans for an extension. This will mean that the Dennis Potter suite will become a self-contained area which can be used when the rest of the library is closed.
