JOHN Kyrle High School in Ross-on-Wye has received national recognition for its work supporting children and families during school holidays.
The school was named national winner of the School Partnership Award at the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Awards 2026, following its earlier success as the West Midlands regional winner.
The award was presented at a ceremony hosted by the Department for Education in Westminster on September 30, recognising the school's commitment to providing opportunities beyond the classroom.
Led by assistant headteacher Fiona Moore, the school's HAF programme has expanded significantly in recent years, offering children access to sport, outdoor learning, creative projects, wellbeing activities and healthy meals during school holidays.
Headteacher Dr Luke Moseley said: "We are incredibly proud to receive national recognition for work that has always been driven by a simple belief; every young person deserves access to enriching experiences, opportunities and support, regardless of their circumstances."
He praised the dedication of staff who had given up their holidays to support local children and families.
The programme also helps young people develop friendships, confidence and a sense of belonging before beginning secondary school.
Mrs Moore said: "The success of the programme comes from the dedication of a large team of staff who genuinely care about young people and want them to have positive experiences during the holidays."
She added: "To receive national recognition is a fantastic achievement, but what matters most is knowing that young people have enjoyed new experiences, built confidence and created lasting memories."
The award also recognised the school's partnership with Herefordshire Council and organisations delivering holiday activities throughout the county.
Dr Moseley said the achievement reflected the commitment of staff, families and community partners who had helped make the programme successful.
