A new group has been set up by local artist Ian Coleman, designed to encourge and develop artisitic talents.

“Draw Draw Draw” has to be the classic fundamental advice for any artist to develop your imagination, improve your technical skills and boost your confidence.

Sketching and drawing is that moment of creating an idea into a reality. When we start out as a child we’re always drawing in line, at speed and free of self judgement, enjoying the moment of making marks and essentially playing. As an adult, demands on our time increase and that small enjoyment of doodling and drawing gets put to the back.

Imagine spending just 15 minutes a day on a sketch. It could be anything, fruit in a bowl, the high street, or an imaginative drawing. Once you’ve done it, there’s a moment of satisfaction, you’ve done a thing, completed it. If you do it every day the drawing skills develop, the ideas develop, a style starts to emerge, the endorphins kick in and your imagination keeps firing. Sketchbook Club classes are designed to introduce you to a new drawing habit, get the ideas flowing and to find your style at sketching and inking. During the sessions artists will try out sketching tools and sketch books to find out what works for you, whether it is drawing in pencil or biro, pen and ink, in black, white and colour. There’s a fantastic array of drawing tools out there.

There will be an opportunity to draw from things in real life, in print, and from deep inside our heads and by the end of the 16 hours of cathartic sketching, sketchbooks will be full with drawing styles and ideas and Ian hopes that everyone will have had a chance to have a laugh and enjoy themelves.
