About ten years ago two Herefordshire Councillors for Ross, Joyce Davies and Joyce Thomas fought a long and difficult campaign to bring a better waste site to the town.

The new site was located across the road from the one it replaced and was more modern and larger than the previous one. At the time, the then Councillor Joyce Thomas said that many people had asked her to do something about enlarging the waste site and extending the opening hours.

Now the two Joyces have joined forces again to try to meet the demand from residents for longer opening times or an evening opening during the summer.

Joyce Thomas told the Ross Gazette:?"About ten years ago, when Joyce Davies and I were County Councillors representing East ward in Ross, we seized the opportunity to make a bid for funds which had become available for recycling facilities.

"This was a very important issue to the people of Ross when we were canvassing on the doorsteps. Months of negotiation followed but we were successful in the end and we are particularly proud of this achievement."
