Madam, May I write in support of Lynn Tomlinson's letter of January 21st expressing her dismay at the the proposed move of the Tourist Information Centre to the Heritage Centre.
We all know how hard some local people have worked to make the Centre what it is today and in its setting of the Market House, surely it is unique and a treasure for residents and tourists alike.
The same can be said of the TIC, it provides an essential service for Ross and its surrounds. And indeed for the county.
Last April, my husband and I had occasion to take some family friends for a day out. It seemed that we saw places that were familiar to us through their eyes, and found that it was a marvellous day. From the Old Station at Tintern - ready for coffee in the morning - clean and welcoming, to the fantastic Abbey, with the great shop and information area. A good meal in the pub there and finally to Symonds Yat with the RSPB and their telescopes and the peregrines of course!
Surely, for the sake of all our hard-working people in places of interest, pubs, hotels, B and Bs etc we need a first class TIC with the facilities as now.
What we don't want is the two important services made to feel down-graded and unimportant, which they most certainly are not.
June Partridge, Ross
