Members of Vaga and Kyrle Probus Clubs in Ross recently spent a perfect summer morning at Ross Golf Club’s idealic Gorsley based tree-lined course, to stage their Annual golf match between the two clubs.
Vaga, now in it’s 30th year, is an offshoot of the Kyrle Club so this reunion, and the shared experience is valued and recognised each year through some golfing rivalry, and the dinner party which follows. Held at Ross Golf Club’s restaurant the 48 members and wives who supported the evening’s social event this year were accommodated in fine style by Club caterers, Angie and Patrick and their team.
On the golf course, while Vaga had high hopes of retaining the inter-club trophy, which comes with considerable bragging rights, ultimately their efforts fell short of expectations. Kyrle’s 119 stableford points total scored by their four members – Team Captain Jim Hamilton, Martin Barr, Peter Farrington and Dennis Calder were two points better than the equivalent efforts of the Vaga squad who had to settle for second place.
Kyrle Probus Club Vice President Andrew Chalmers made the presentations.
Martin Barr showed his mastery of the game in scoring an impressive 39 stableford points to win their Club’s Trevor Lane Cup. David Peacock was the star of the Vaga team where his more modest 35 points total made him their Club’s Elwyn Hayward Trophy winner with Keith Ray, Anthony Priddis, Brian Donald and Club President Herbie Renfield making up the Vaga team.
Both Probus Clubs, made up of retired members with professional and business backgrounds rely upon the valued services of Ross Conservative Club for their bi-monthly meetings, and which are regularly attended by guest speakers. The Vaga Club looks after the 2nd/4th Tuesday mornings throughout the year with the Kyrle Club ensuring that the 1st/3rd Thursday mornings represent meaningful occasions for their members.
