AUCTIONEERS RG and RB Williams report that lambs met a flying trade while the livestock market in Ross itself was slightly smaller than normal however trading was buoyant peaking at 420ppkg - £2,948 for the heifers.

Strongest demand was shown on those better quality sorts consistently selling from 380p – 420ppkg.

Steers peaked at £2,590 for Angus Cross Dairy steers with quality Lim Cross heifers selling between £2,700 and £2,948. Well fleshed cattle met a firm trade from a strong buying contingent.

A large entry of cull cows met a strong trade peaking at £2,083 – 298ppkg. Better meated sorts sold from 270p – 298ppkg and stronger or leaner cows sold between £1,750 - £2,000.

Auctioneer William Probert said that a large entry of dairy cross cows met a flying trade selling from 200p – 240ppkg. The overall average price of cull cows was £1,550 per head. The top vendor was J J Taylor & Son of Home Farm.

A large entry of lambs met a blistering trade from start to finish peaking at £184 – 488ppkg.

Any number of quality Continentals sold from 420p – 488ppkg. Strongest demand was shown on those 34kg – 41kg lambs with the general run selling either side of 400ppkg.

A strong demand was shown on heavier lambs with 44kg – 50kg selling between £170 - £184. The overall average price of lambs £168/head 42kg 400ppkg. The top Vendor was G W Bevan & Sons of Coldbrook Farm.

The average price for a medium hogg was £133.44, heavy hoggs achieved an average of £146.10. The top vendor was J Watkins of Brook Farm.

Cull Ewes met an electric trade, peaking at £231 with any number of well-bred Continentals selling between £180 and £231. Leaner sorts of ewes sold between £140 and £170. The overall average price was £160. The top vendor was B Blandford & Sons, Mayfields Farm.
