The children at Lea C of E Primary and Pre-School were really excited by their visitors on Wednesday, April 25th. A decommissioned Air Ambulance spent the day at the school, allowing all of the children to visit and go inside the helicopter, finding out about the very important job that this vehicle plays, especially in such a rural community.
The children were very excited to see the helicopter pod turn up in the morning, on the back of a lorry, and it added a taste of reality to the children’s week which was involving looking at keeping themselves safe and safety awareness.
In the coming weeks, the School Council will arrange a fund raising event for the Midlands Air Ambulance to say thank you.
The Ross Community First Responders (RCFR) were also onsite, teaching some of the older children about emergency first aid and basic resuscitation techniques.
The school would like to thank Mary Seldon from the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and Cllr Leanne Pogson from Lea, for organising the event coordinating everything, to ensure children and the local community could all benefit from this wonderful opportunity.
Cllr Pogson told the Ross Gazette: “Having watched both Sarah and Tom from RCFR in the Village Hall, I know that the children learned loads about how to deal with a first aid incident, and learnt how to do CPR with the older children also getting the opportunity to use and understand the defibrillators as well.
“I have to say that these two fantastic charities were brilliant on the day. They worked hand in hand together, so much so that they are going to try and plan some other events working in partnership again.
“My thanks have to go to Sally-Anne and all at the school, and then to Mary, Jackie, Richard from the Midlands Air Ambulance and, Tom and Sarah from RCFR. All were stars on the day. It was such a great experience that we are looking to make it an annual event, and hopefully with better weather will be able to get other parishioners involved too.”
