The Ross branch of the U3A is holding a special meeting with Afternoon Tea at the Larruperz Centre for potential new members. If you are no longer working full-time or raising a family then now is the time to make the most of life. The U3A gives you the chance to develop your interests, make new friends and enjoy yourself.
U3A stands for the University of the Third Age, which is a self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment.
There are currently more than 35 different groups based in the Ross-on-Wye area, ranging from Bridge to Languages, to Scrabble, to Walking Groups and Yoga. Whatever your interests, there may be space in a group for you – or even better – you might consider creating a new group.
There are monthly meetings on the third Monday of the month at 2:30pm at the Larruperz Centre in Ross-on-Wye. An interesting mix of speakers attend and stimulate the members by giving them something to think about.
The groups meet in each others homes or larger groups meet in community halls such as the Larruperz Centre. Members share their skills and life experiences. Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for its own reward, the sheer joy of discovery. It’s never too late to learn and laugh. One of the oldest members is a lady in her 90s who recently joined the German conversation group and is a great asset to the group.
On September 18th, at 2.30pm Ross U3A is holding an Afternoon Tea at the Larruperz Centre so you can meet the Group Leaders and find out about the different groups available which might interest you.
U3As have become leading organisations in the fight against loneliness, isolation and depression through lifelong learning rooted in the community. So why not come to the next meeting and Afternoon Tea and find out more for yourself? Or for more information visit u3asites.org.uk/ross/contact
