Dear Editor

Having been recently following the articles in The Ross Gazette to deter the pigeons roosting as you enter Ross.

There are lots of humane methods to reduce the numbers, firstly its by reducing the available food source, pigeons only breed when there is plenty of food for their young.  So keeping the area clear of rubbish etc.

Secondly putting netting, doesn’t stop them, they just find ways of getting in holes, it looks tatty and they also risk getting trapped.

The spikes that are put on ledges can be effective, but they look untidy and messy and this is one of the best entrances into Ross, do you really want rows of spikes all over the area.

Also they will stay in the area and either move to the houses opposite or a little further up or down the road.

The most effective method is an electrical device that sends out high frequency noise bands, if several of these were positioned in the area then they will move away, this in humane, and can be done at a very economical cost, and once an initial purchase has been made there would be very very low ongoing costs.

Please do not poison them, as they will just come back, and its so cruel.  These beautiful birds have been here for many years and some of us actually love them and think they are an asset to your town.
