Dear Editor

There will always problems within any large organisation public or private, however it was reassuring to read the positive letter from Susan Wood in last weeks Ross Gazette regarding the excellent NHS treatment she experienced.

I would, however, like to suggest a simple way in which certain members of the public could assist the NHS to save money, time and beds.

I refer to the lack of personal hygiene displayed by some people using public lavatories. It is unacceptable and unhygienic that in supermarkets, people use the facilities without washing their hands afterwards, and then proceed to pick over the produce that others will buy.

Equally, in restaurants and pubs, people do the same thing and then handle the condiments and touch surfaces, others will touch.

The results of spreading germs in this way can be very serious, and has a big impact on the NHS in general, including doctors surgeries where you may wait for an appointment because of this lack of respect for others.

I am reliably informed that this is not a male or female issue, both genders are responsible, so please help The NHS to save money and time when you next feel the urge.

A simple maxim might be:  Go, Wash Leave!
