THE exterior of Ross-on-Wye Library is getting a makeover on two counts in time for the judging of the national ‘In Bloom Scheme.
This past week the illustrious, but mostly anonymous group, that call themselves the Knitseys have struck once again.
This time decorating the pathway fence leading up to the library has been decorated with blooming summer flowers, buzzing bees, scampering squirrels, and the signature Ross, it hedgehog!
This group works all through the year to create different seasons of hand knitted and crochet creations.
This group work in the shadows and stating that they’re not looking for recognition but rather joy in people’s faces.
Their contributions to the town is greatly appreciated by the community as seen through the massive turn out of donations after a call out for people to help them, with hundreds of individual blossoms being contributed by members of the public.
The Knitseys have also contributed crochet hanging baskets of flowers to the railway garden up by Morrisons.
Meanwhile the outside space, which has suffered from the effects of pigeons, has been cleaned up thanks to the effort of Herefordshire Council.
And now the Friends of Ross Library, working with the local authority and library staff are planning to create a beautiful and engaging space.
Plans have been drawn up to include a large retractable awning, which will provide space for special events; a quiet outdoor area to read a book or to work at and a stimulating sensory place for storytelling.
The Friends are currently applying for grants, but with the aid of its own reserves, the members are hoping to have the outdoor space ready for use this summer.
Detailed plans will be made available following the Friends of Ross Library’s Annual General Meeting on June 23.
