Over 50 sponsored trees have been planted over the past few weeks to form the Linear Arboretum around the River Wye.

Ross Tree Warden, Councillor Rob Taylor, has been working with the Town Council to plan a Linear Arboretum which will stretch from Wilton Bridge, through Long Acre and around the Rope Walk Meadow.

Eventually, the organisers say that it will be about a mile long and will be made up of trees from many parts of the world. Many of the trees have wonderful flowers, interesting leaves, bark or varying autumnal colours.

There is also an opportunity for individuals, families, group, organisations or companies to sponsor a tree.

You can choose from the tree list on display in the Town Council Offices. The tree, stake, guard, ties and planting will cost £50.

Organisers began planting the trees during Easter, and so far 51 have been planted.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
