This week is Lions International Awareness Week when many Clubs, all over the world, try to organise something to show members of the public just what the Lions get up. As the local Lions Club is so active all year round, this year they have decided to concentrate on the activities they have already planned.

As most of the readers of this newspaper will know the Ross Lions organise Ross Bonfire Night which will take place on Saturday, November 8th starting at 7pm with the torch parade. Gates open at 6pm and refreshments in the form of burgers, hotdogs, tea and coffee will be available.

On November 10th the entries in the Lions Peace Poster Competition by pupils of the John Kyrle High School will be judged to see which one goes forward to the next round of the contest.

In December, starting on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th and for the next three weekends, the Lions help Santa run his Grotto at Pengethley Garden Centre. Look out for posters and advertisements for details. Families with small children will also be able to have 'Breakfast with Santa' on the two Saturdays before Christmas and on the Monday and Tuesday of Christmas Week. It is necessary to book for this event please ring the restaurant at Pengethley Garden Centre.

The Tree of Remembrance will be in its usual place at the Heritage Centre in Ross for the month of December, where, for a small fee, you can place a card in memory of those who will not be with us this Christmas.

Finally, the Christmas Lunch for the Lonely Elderly of Ross and Surrounding District is being planned for Christmas Day at the Ryefield Centre. All those interested in attending the lunch must advise either the WRVS, the Ryefield Centre or the Lions on 0845 8335786.

MADAM,?Much to my amazement I won the Eating Out Guide competition, it was a wonderful surprise. I chose to spend my £100 at the Wilton Court Hotel and I would like to say a very big thank you to you for a lovely night.

I took with me my partner and two of our friends.

We had not been to the Wilton Court for many years so it was nice to have an excuse to visit. We all had lovely food in beautiful surroundings.
