Local resident James Weatherhead spoke to Ross Town Council on Monday, January 11th. He wanted to bring the Councillors’ attention to the amount of litter in some areas of the town and the state of the pavements.

He told them that he had collected bags of litter in his own road and also in streets in Ross near to cash machines. He said it is all very well having bins but they need emptying. He told them that if they want the town to appeal to tourists it needs to be clean.

He said he understood that the County Council is strapped for cash but he said things like not cleaning the gutters properly because of parked cars is annoying. He asked why not give people notice of when the street cleaner would be out so they could move cars. He said this is not a party political issue. He said:?“We have to work with Herefordshire Council to get the town clean. We have to work as a community for the good of the community.”

Councillor Phil Cutter praised everyone who steps up and helps to clear litter themselves, but he said the real problem is educating those who drop litter or dump it. He said it costs money to clear litter and that has to come from Ross taxpayers.
