AUCTIONEERS RG and RB Williams report a good entry of finished cattle at Ross-on-Wye’s Livestock market met with a fast trade, topping at £2,850.
The auction on June 30 saw quality steers peaking at £2,850 entered by Arthur Bros of Cefn Llech.
Heifers topped at 370p per kilogramme, again from Arthur Bros with heifers consistently trading between 360p and 370p per kilo.
A nice entry of young bulls peaked at £2,412 with the entire consignment of bulls averaging £2,341. Other top vendors include DM & CS Andrews, of Glen Court Farm and C & L Warner of Storesbrook Farm.
An entry of Dairy Cross cows peaked at £1,884 in the cull cows section selling to 280p per kilo with the entire consignment averaging £1,350. There were no suckler cows forward to report.
The overall average price of cull cows - £1,350 per head. The top vendor was D L Wilde & Partners of The Tyla Farm.
The entry of lambs met a cautious trade peaking at £172. Any number of export lambs sold between 360p and 384p per kilo.
Auctioneer William Probert assessed that meat was the key to achieving premium prices with heavy weight lambs meeting the strongest demand topping at £172 with any number selling between £158 and £172.
The overall average price of lambs achieved was £149/head. The top vendors were R J Watkins of Green Farm and S G Williams of Cefn Parc .
A good entry of cull ewes topped at £200 on two occasions for Suffolk Cross ewes. Stronger Continental cross mules sold between £170 and £200. Smaller and leaner ewes sold between £100 and £140. The top vendor was D Staight of Hill Farm.
