AUCTIONEERS RG & RB Williams report that fat cattle met another strong trade at the livestock market in Ross-on-Wye on November 3, topping out at 398p per kilogramme.

with the entry dominated by mature sorts selling between 350p and 380p per kilogramme and well meated Continentals selling up to 398p per kilogramme.

More cattle could have been sold to this exceptional trade.

The top vendors were DM & CS Andrews of Glen Court Farm and C Simcock & Sons of Green Farm.

A shorter entry of cull cows overage topped at £1861 from Sexty Bros with leaner Lim Cross sorts selling at £1,770. More cows wanted to meet demand. The overall average price of cows was £1,561. The other top vendor was CE & EC Freeman of Vain Farm.

Lambs stepped up another gear peaking at £190. A nice entry met a flying trade from start to finish with handy weights consistently selling between 320p and 338p per kilogramme with better sorts peaking at 340p per kilogramme.

Heavy weights consistently sold between £165 - £190 mainly because numbers were short nationally and is reflected in the current trade.

The top vendors were N & I Bevan of Trothlands Farm; E G Smith of Green Farm, and Boultbee Brooks of Welcheston Court.

An improved entry of cull ewes and rams met a flying trade topping at £212 with any number of cull ewes selling between £180 and £212.

Well meated Continentals sold between £200 and £212 with leaner ewes stepping up a gear selling between £100 to £130.

Auctioneer William Probert said that more ewes were required to meet demand from the buying contingent. The average price of ewes was £142.
