Years of planning are finally coming to fruition for Llangrove Village Hall as it is finally due to get a new roof.
The Management Committee are delighted they have been successful in their bid for a grant from the EU funded Herefordshire LEADER Project for £29,614 towards the cost of the roof, including a new ceiling and improved lighting for the main hall.
The new, highly-insulated, roof will add to comfort and reduce heat loss, as well as avoiding the problems of condensation which have damaged the existing ceiling. Inside, the new ceiling will extend to the apex and this, with modern lighting, will greatly improve the look of the hall. Then, as always, the busy ‘Friends of the Village Hall’ will set-to and help with re-decorating.
This self-help attitude is typical of the village; the Village Hall was built in the early 1960s after many years of fund-raising by residents, and throughout its history its maintenance and development have been supported by DIY efforts of villagers.
It is hoped that the building work can be carried out in the second half of this year. Having found the way forward for this essential first stage of refurbishment the Committee will continue actively to pursue grants for further exciting improvements and extensions to the Hall.
The present project for modernising the Hall is the result of several years of planning. The Committee recognise with gratitude all those many people who have given up their time and energy to help make this important development possible; both those who started them on this long path and those who have helped with the final stages.
