A project to set up a Men’s Shed in Ross-on-Wye which was featured in a recent issue of the Ross Gazette is on target to open soon.
There are numerous Sheds throughout the country, set up to give men who are retired, or no longer in employment, an opportunity to enjoy male company and something to do.
The great news is that premises have now been obtained for the Ross Shed on the Ashburton Industrial Estate, and it’s all systems go for a startup date in March.
In the meantime a meeting will be held in the Man of Ross public house on the evening of Monday, February 12th at 7.30pm to sign up new members and to make preparations for the opening.
For more information about the project contact David Moore on [email protected] or telephone 01989 763664 or 07771 738614.
This project is starting from the ground up, with an empty building which will need to be converted into a workshop. Whilst everyone will be welcome they especially need skilled carpenters and joiners and experienced metal workers to design and make the workshop facilities, benches etc.
They also need people to donate tools of all descriptions, especially larger items, such as band saws or lathes, either as a gift to the Shed or on temporary loan. These tools will be put to very good use so this could be a good time to sort out your shed or garage. Even broken tools which need to be repaired could be a project for the members of the Ross Shed.
They are also looking for community and individual projects, large and small. If you need something making, designing or repairing, please submit your ideas as soon as possible for consideration. They will be asking for donations on completion of projects, and the organisers want to be clear that they are not a substitute for local businesses.
It is not their intention to take work away from them, rather they are hoping to produce community projects that are for the benefit of the town, and surrounding areas and to keep the workshop busy.
All are welcome irrespective of age and physical condition and not only from Ross, but from surrounding areas. If you are able to get to the Shed regularly you are welcome.
If you are not able to get to the meeting for any reason then contact David Moore by email.
