Bouncing happily on his mum's lap, nine-month-old Isaac Johnston gives no sign of the difficulties he has had to face these last few months. Last November, when he was just four months old, he was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour. He was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital and was in theatre for nine hours as surgeons removed it. He also had a blood transfusion. "It was," said Isaac's mum, Beccy, "a complete success, but the recovery process took a number of weeks. Initially we were in hospital for five weeks, but then had to return a couple of weeks later to have a shunt fitted, as the fluid was building up in his head."
