Ross stalwarts Gordon and Margaret Lucas have been honoured with the naming of a path on a new housing development.
Gordon and Margaret, who started Ross landmark Lucas Motor Cycles, were well-known in Ross and contributed to various going concerns. Gordon, who passed away last November, ran his motor-cycle business in Ross for 50 years and worked for the community for many years, as a supporter of Ross-in-Bloom, as a member of the Parochial Church Council at St Mary's and, since 2003 as a Town and County Councillor. Gordon was Mayor in 2005-2006 and was a popular and hardworking representative of the town.
Margaret, who passed away in January, worked with many groups including Merton House, the British Legion and the Lions Club, but will be remembered especially for her work with Ross-in-Bloom.
Lucas Walk, off Homs Road, is part of the new Festival housing development. Gordon and Margaret's family gathered on Tuesday to admire the new sign.
Gail Lucas said: "We're all delighted. Thank you to the town for doing it. It's come up at the right time and is a really nice gesture."
At Monday's Ross Town Council meeting, Councillor Andrew Atkinson asked for more suggestions for the use of the Gordon Lucas Memorial Fund. The fund was set up shortly after Gordon's death last year and was championed by MP?Jesse Norman. It was hoped that the fund could be used for educational purposes and in a permanent memorial, however, Cllr Atkinson suggested that should be re-evaluated and that the £1,000 could be spent on computer equipment for a local school.
