MADAM, Re: the item on the trees in the Gazette on October 5th. The White Poplar on the side of the car park, on the approach to Ross from Wilton has been pollarded. If they had been left untouched they would have been some of the largest trees to grow in this country. There has been a two year drought and water loving trees like the Poplar, Withy Willow, the Elder and the Ash are dangerous to limb at the moment. The trunk is empty of water and such limbs are very top heavy at the moment.
