Dear Editor,
Do people realise that even if the Courtyard is running the Market House, Ross Town Council will be paying all the bills. The Courtyard should be either paying the bills themselves or paying a rent to cover costs.
At present they are only paying a small percentage of the takings which does not cover the cost of the running of the Market House and will cost us (taxpayers of Ross) even more when the heating is put on. What Made in Ross has done looks great, but the Market House should also be used as a Tourist Information Centre, surely it can be used for both? This would help both Ross and the traders as it would bring more people into the Market House. I am sure that a Tourist Information Centre could be set up with volunteers that would keep the Market House open seven days a week.
Councillors: Please use this time wisely look into the lease and put the Market House back into the hands of the people of Ross, it will not cost the town any more than it is now and probably much less. Party Politics should not be used in this, it is too important for the people of Ross, you all should be working together.
I do not want to see the Market House closed but I also want to see it used as it should be, the heart of Ross, a place where people can go for information. I went into the Market House on Saturday especially to see what is happening and to look around the displays which are lovely. While I was in the Market House four different groups of people came in and asked for local information. This shows how much we need somewhere for tourist information.
