Retired PGL Director, Martin Hudson, has been rewarded for his outstanding contribution to the provision of high quality, exciting and inspiring outdoor education for children over a career of nearly 40 years. He retired from PGL in Ross earlier this year.The Lifetime Contribution Award was presented to Martin by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom in recognition of his work on various national committees which have established agreed high standards of Health & Safety and educational support. The Council champions the role that learning outside the classroom plays in helping young people to achieve their goals, by providing hands-on practical experiences that bring learning to life.
In addition to his work at PGL, Martin was also the Chairman of the British Activity Holiday Association, Vice Chairman of the English Outdoor Council and a committee member on the Adventure Activities Industry Advisory Committee and the School Travel Forum.
Beth Gardiner, Chief Executive of the LOtC Council, said: "Martin's involvement in the development of the Manifesto for Learning Outside the Classroom, Adventuremark and the LOtC Quality Badge means that he will leave a legacy that will continue to benefit all those working in and experiencing learning outside the classroom."
Martin said: "Winning the award was totally unexpected. I'm very proud that my work has been recognised and valued by colleagues and friends. It's a great way to round off an enjoyable and fulfilling career."
