THE nomination for the next Mayor of Ross-on-Wye comes as little surprise as it has always been the Deputy Mayor who steps up to the role.

However a new precedent was set at the meeting of Ross Town Council on Monday, March 12th when Deputy Mayor Caroline Utting nominated the current mayor David Ravenscroft.

Councillor John Edwards said:?"There is strong case for setting a precedent. Cllr Ravenscroft has been involved in the planning for this important jubilee year. As Caroline is not keen to be Mayor he could continue the excellent work for Ross and Herefordshire.

Councillor Roberts said:?"It would be a tribute to the Mayor and his chairmanship as he has the time available for this demanding year.

Councillor Cutter also paid tribute to Cllr Ravenscroft but he said that he had done the job several times. He suggested that someone else should be given the opportunity. Cllr Cutter said he was in favour of giving someone new a chance and he nominated Councillor Andrew Atkinson.

However after a vote Councillor David Ravenscroft was elected as the next Mayor. He said he was honoured to serve the town and was looking forward to being involved in all the coming events.
