The summer holidays are meant to be a time of joy for schoolchildren. Even more so for teenagers of my age, who have extended holidays due to the end of GCSE exams being early June. For the first few weeks everything is brilliant. No homework, rest, relaxation, its great. But slowly and surely it starts to get boring. Ross simply doesn't have enough attractions to keep us occupied. A Cinema would surely get many teenagers, as well as families, going to watch movies. But then again that would be no good if you don't have the money to go there. And that is another problem with these holidays.
Without the credit crunch, more jobs would be available and less people would be applying. However, with the economic downturn, no establishments want to advertise jobs, as they cannot afford to pay the staff. I walked around Ross and not one store had jobs available for me, and I looked in about 30 stores. When there are jobs, they seem to be permanent, and I can't do permanent weekday jobs when I'm starting college in a few short weeks. When I finally find a job that was for open to teenagers and adults alike, is on a Saturday (so it can be done when I'm in college) and is something I would actually like, dozens of applicants means I will probably not get the job. More jobs need to be made available for post GCSE graduates so we can properly enjoy the summer holidays.
