Madam, I was quite surprised to read 'Town History Mosaic thanks to Lottery Grant' article on the front page of the Ross Gazette on January 21st.

I had mentioned to one or two people in the town about the possibility of something similar being created to enhance a dreary wall in the town centre.... not outside the library, but on the wall of Peacocks which runs along The Crofts. Now we have attractive shops on one side of the walkway, with a bleak outlook.

A mosaic featuring the history/countryside of Ross would lift the whole area - it would be an interesting piece of art work, educational and altogether enhancing.

A similar enterprise was created in Holyhead, Anglesey, when artists and school children created a mosaic, depicting the seascape and port - the gateway to Ireland. Originally it flanked a dreary passageway. Now, after the very beautiful pedestrian bridge, and enhances the entrance to another work of art, a very attractive, modern architectural and functional masterpiece.

Could there be money to cover two such works of art in Ross? It's worth thinking about.
