ANOTHER FIGHT broke out in Ross last weekend, just seven days after serious public disorder brought dozens of police officers to the town.
It is believed the fracas involved people who had been celebrating a birthday at the Eagle Inn, on Broad Street, but the outcome was nothing like as dramatic as the previous weekend's incident, when seven people were arrested and one was tasered.
A member of the public called the police at 2am on Sunday, but although police officers arrived on the scene within minutes, the brawl had broken up. Bystanders were warned to leave the area, but no arrests were made.
Speaking to a Gazette reporter on Sunday afternoon, a member of staff at the Eagle, which is licensed to sell alcohol until 1.30am, suggested that late-night fighting is part of the character of the town. "That's Ross for you – they just love to fight."
The problem is being taken seriously by the pub's management as well. Acting on police advice, and as of last Saturday night, the Eagle now has security staff on the door on Friday and Saturday nights – although this measure did not prevent the affray on Sunday morning.
Speaking about the recent spate of fighting in Ross, Ross Mayor Jo Lane hit out at "the few people who are spoiling everything for the majority."
