Wye Valley NHS Trust celebrated National Nurse’s Day by thanking its hard working nurses and midwives for the high quality care they deliver to patients across the county.
National Nurse’s Day takes place on May 12th each year, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.
More than 900 nurses and midwives work at Wye Valley NHS Trust providing care at Hereford County Hospital, Ross, Leominster and Bromyard Community Hospitals, and in the community delivering care in people’s homes.
On Friday, May 11th, the Trust marked the celebration with an exhibition stand at Hereford County Hospital, where nurses took part in sharing stories about what the profession means to them and the contribution nurses make every day to many people’s lives.
Lucy Flanagan, director of nursing at Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: “Our hospital nurses, community nurses and midwives, go the extra mile every day and night to ensure that each patient receives the best possible care and compassion during their hospital visit, stay, or treatment at home.
“National Nurse’s Day is a great opportunity to thank our valued nursing staff for the amazing work they do caring for our patients.
“This is an exciting time for the nursing profession as the role has transformed over a number of years and nurses are now specialising in many areas, with some becoming advanced practitioners and delivering nurse led clinics providing easier access to services for patients and freeing up doctor’s time.
“We offer comprehensive education support throughout their career, along with development and support packages, to ensure they have the right skills to provide high quality care for patients in Herefordshire.
“We’re encouraging qualified nurses, and those interested in returning to nursing, to find out more about what the Trust has to offer at our open day on June 29th, 2018 at Hereford County Hospital.
