A PROPOSAL to create a children’s home out of a dwelling house and its annexe lodge building in Ledbury Road has been presented to Herefordshire planners.
The applicant, Pathways 2 the Future Ltd, states that Applefield House and Leaf Lodge would be ideal to convert to a residential institution and operationalise this home to support Herefordshire’s strategy to return local children back to the local community. It Applicant Rachel Ellacott said: “We have extensive experience in managing children with complex needs and feel that this service will provide a stable home for children.”
It is proposed that the staff at the children’s home will work on a three-day on and three-day off or a four-day on, four-day off rota, including sleep-in shifts meaning that staff will change over on a three- or four-day rotation.
The application states that on a normal week, the home will welcome between five and six visitors, this includes family, social worker and friends.

Self-build home and a detached garage proposal
HEREFORDSHIRE planners will be considering if a proposed replacement self-build dwelling and a detached garage, can be given permission to go ahead.
Peter Triggs of Walford Road is proposing to construct a two-storey extension at White Keys along with a single-story sunroom and erect a triple garage with ancillary space. The application states that there would be an element of demolition works on the 0.141 hectare site.
The existing property is a one-and-a-half storey four-bedroomed detached house designed and constructed in the 1970s. It is surrounded by residential properties of varying styles, sizes and periods.
The application states that it’s the owner is intending to enhance the existing property, modernise it to maximise its potential.
The extensive plot size offers opportunities for the existing footprint to be increased whilst still maintaining a large area of private amenity.
The triple garage with ancillary space is considered to be proportionate to both the size of the plot and the scale of the proposed dwelling. The massing and placement of this also mirrors that shown at a neighbouring property.
The application concludes that the scheme represents an opportunity to enhance the existing White Keys dwelling and bring vitality back to this family home and that the extensive plot has the capacity to support the proposed extensions and garage.
