Ross Penyard Singers have announced that they have a new musical director ahead of their spring concert.

Pippa Wright will now be overseeing the rehearsals for Ross Penyard Singers’ spring concert. The theme of the concert is spring melodies and will be on this Saturday, May 28 at 7.30 pm at St Mary’s Church in Ross-on-Wye.

The concert will include some English romantic partsongs such as Come Live with Me and My Love Dwelt in a Northern Land, as well as popular songs such as House of the Rising Sun—the John Frith arrangement—and Mr Blue Sky.

Members of the choir will also be singing solos. The choir is extremely lucky to have Simon Peberdy to provide musical accompaniment on the piano.

The singers are thrilled with their rehearsals with Pippa, who is considered a talented and experienced musician and music leader. She has worked extensively as a vocal tutor and choral leader, and has a background in both sacred vocal music and musical theatre. She is committed to helping the choir explore a new and exciting repertoire, whilst helping them to continue to improve their singing technique. Pippa has trained at the University of Birmingham and the Royal Academy of Music.

The choir rehearse on a Wednesday evening from 7pm to 9pm at Christ Church on Edde Cross Street and are always happy to welcome new members. There is no audition process and no previous experience of singing is required. Those who would like to join in and have a go at singing are invited to come to one of the rehearsals in June, when they will be starting rehearsals for the autumn concert of classical music.

A spokesperson for the choir said: “Singing is good for both our physical and mental health and provides an excellent opportunity to meet new people.”

Tickets for the ‘Spring Melodies’ concert cost £10 and are available from Liz on 01989 750233 or on the door. Drinks and raffle tickets will be available to purchase during the interval.
