The nurses at Ross Community Hospital have been delighted to receive a brand new ECG machine, thanks to the fundraising efforts of Josie and Ed O’Driscoll.
Earlier this year, two concerts were organised in memory of Brendan O’Driscoll; Josie’s husband and Ed’s father. Brendan had been cared for at Ross Community Hospital before his death in January, and his family held the hospital in high esteem.
Josie organised a concert, where the Ross Choristers performed; Brendan was a founding member of the popular choir, and £1,400 was raised during the event.
Ed, the founding member of Ross Gig Club, also organised a concert, and £900 was raised. During Brendan’s funeral, £495 was raised, so the combined amount totalled £2,795.
This money was presented to Jill Davies, Chair of the Friends of Ross Hospital, in May this year, and the money was used to purchase a new Electrocardiography (ECG) machine, which was given to the hospital recently.
Jan Elliot, Sister at the Community hospital, told the Ross Gazette that the new ECG machine is a “very useful piece of kit.”
The machine records the electrical activity and rhythm of the heart, to find out whether there are any irregularities.
Jan said that the new ECG machine has already been put to good use, and has been used to help some very poorly patients.
Ed told the Ross Gazette:?“I’m delighted our little efforts can help the patients of Ross Hospital. I’m sure Dad would be very proud.”
He added that he was pleased that the machine would make a difference to the patients and a difference to the staff at the hospital.
