Dear Editor,
The news of a planning application for a new supermarket in the Wolf Development Park is appalling. It will create more traffic chaos.
I live at the far end of Merrivale Lane and frequently walk into town. The few yards after turning left into Alton Street and then right into Chase Road often means taking one’s life in one’s own hands.
Traffic prefers to travel at inconsiderate speed. Danger comes into focus with parked vehicles on the corner, where the pavement is at its narrowest.
Drivers are at their least-considerate in wet weather and pedestrians need to stand in doorways to avoid saturation.
The Alton Street rat-run starts at the top and is joined by the Merrivale Lane rat-run as almost everyone heads in the direction of, or returning from, the M50 or Gloucester and the Forest of Dean etc. An infrastructure assesment is urgently needed with all the development planned for our town. Why is so much development granted without the roads required to support it?
I am willing to coordinate a local action group in opposition to this application. I would ask those interested to please send emails to [email protected] or texts to 07952 505 606.
The major part its work will be answering the question: “Do we need two more supermarkets?”
