Following complaints from the Ross Gazette, residents, and local businesses, Highways England made the decision to move the A49 roadworks from day time to night time. The night time roadworks commenced on Monday, August 12th.

The decision was made just two days after Peterstow Parish Council held an open meeting to discuss the concerns regarding the roadworks.

The A49 roadworks initially began during the night, but it was switched to day time work after Highways England received complaints from residents about the level of noise.

On Wednesday, August 7th, Andy Butterfield, Head Of Service Delivery at Highways England, released a statement informing local authorities of the change to roadworks. He said the feedback from the open meeting had allowed him to re-visit how Highways England are delivering this scheme, and make some changes to address the concerns raised. He said: “Work will begin at 9pm and finish at 6am, and there will be no restrictions on the A49 during the day. Unfortunately, there will be additional noise and lighting overnight that may cause some inconvenience to local residents, however please be assured that we’ll do our best to mitigate these.”

In response to communication concerns, Highways England are producing a weekly update explaining the work completed, along with details and locations of the restrictions for the forthcoming week. This will be shared with the Parish and County Council to circulate to residents. Andy also assured that a Highways England representative will be visiting local businesses on Friday, August 9th to ensure that they are fully aware of the revised working hours.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
