Councillor Phil Cutter brought up the matter of funding twinning trips at the Town Council meeting on Monday, September 14th.
Cllr Cutter pointed out that a local resident had written a letter to the Ross Gazette last week for publication. The letter stressed the importance of Ross Library staying open, and should not be closed by Herefordshire Council, as a part of the £42 million budget savings they must employ.
In a section of the letter, the writer suggested that a way County Council can make savings is by stopping “expensive ‘jollies’ like visits to Twin Towns”. Cllr Cutter wanted to clarify that twinning trips do not come at any expense to either Ross Town Council, or Herefordshire County Council. “Whoever goes, they pay their own way,” Cllr Cutter stated. “I’m happy to do it. I don’t get a penny for it, and I don’t want it either.”
