There is no money available to carry out work at children’s play areas, Councillor Richard Mayo told Ross Town Council at a meeting on Monday, July 9th.
Town Councillor, Caroline Utting told Ross Town Council that a parent with children at Ashfield Park School had recently asked her why the railings had been removed from the park at Roman Way.
She told fellow Councillors that the parent felt her child was not old enough to be able to play in the park without the security of fencing.
Cllr Mayo, who is a Town and County Cllr, said that the railings were removed 18 months ago as they had become dangerous.
He said that they had deteriorated leaving nails exposed, and as the County Council has no money for repairs to children’s play areas they removed the fencing.
He added that as the play area in the park is not near to a main road it did not fit the safety criteria for replacing.
