Despite the poor weather forecast hundreds of dogs still arrived at the Rope Walk in Ross-on-Wye to attempt to break the world record for the nimber of dogs wearing a bandana.
Although this was not achieved this year the organisers are keen to develop the event and even turn it into a huge festival for dog lovers, along the lines of Glastonbury for music.
The organisers knew quite early on, from the registration figures, that they would be unlikely to match the numbers participating last year, then they discovered that the record, which was 764 dogs, had just been smashed and knew they would not be able to set a new record on Saturday morning.
However, one Soi Dog Foundation supporter brought his drone with him to the event, and dogs and owners lined up in the shape of the letters of Soi Dogs so that he could take some memorable photographs.
The many people who did turn out to support the charity were in good spirits and there were many favourable comments about the site and Ross-on- Wye.
Mimmo Di Giacomo, Director of development of the charity told the Ross Gazette that although it was disappointing not to have broken the record the charity is determined to turn this into a fun day for the future. He said: “I would like to see it as the Glastonbury of the dog world.”
He said: “There are so many rescued dogs here today and it would be great to build on this and bring it back to Ross every year.”
He added that the charity is looking for support and sponsorship from local businesses so that they can build this into a huge annual event.
