The local Sea Cadets are planning a sponsored cycle ride between Ross and Monmouth to raise fund towards the purchase of a new pulling boat.

For many years the MOD has supported the Sea Cadets by assisting with the supply of pulling boats for Unit use. Unfortunately this type of funding is no longer available so the Sea Cadets, in conjunction with a major boat producer, have designed and built a purpose boat.

This new boat will be especially for the use of Cadets. It will be made of plastic so it will need very little maintenance, unlike the present MOD type which have to have a large amount of money spent on them each year. This maintenance has to come from the unit funds.

This new boat will be used by Sea Cadets from 2010 onwards for all training, competitions and regattas. The Unit Staff of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth Sea Cadets have embarked on raising funds to purchase at least one of these new boats so that their cadets are not disadvantaged next year. They need to raise at least £2,500, if you would like to sponsor them or make a donation contact them on 01989 567426.
