Herefordshire Council and the Community Protection Team have declared war on people who fail to clear up after their pets in Ross and their fight will feature in a new BBC series called That's Britain! hosted by Julia Bradbury and Nick Knowles.

The programme, which follows the team as they take enforcement action on flytipping, littering and dog fouling, is first being aired today, Wednesday, November 23rd at 7.30pm.

For the past month every dog warden in the county has been specifically focused on Ross and four fixed penalty fines have been issued on the cricket pitch alone.

Residents of Ross have long been asking for action to be taken against irresponsible dog owners who allow their dogs to foul with no intention of picking up after them – whether it is in the town centre, a residential area or smack bang in the middle of a sports pitch.

Councillor Atkinson, who is in favour of strong action against the mindless minority who don't 'scoop the poop', told the Ross Gazette that the message is loud and clear, "If you are not going to pick up after your dog, you will be caught and you will be issued with a fixed penalty, the campaign is really stepping up a gear."

When Councillor Atkinson was campaigning for election he was shocked how many people complained about this issue and has been working to see a solution. He believes that by stepping up the action there will be a dramatic improvement, however, it will take time and he would also like to see an increase in fines from £80 to £1000.
