AS the days get longer and the gardens have woken up, the good news is that Ross-on-Wye’s Open Gardens scheme is returning.

During the weekend of May 31 and June 1 over 20 different venues, including private gardens, public spaces, the Tudorville allotments and the community gardens will be opening to celebrate the many facets of gardening in Ross.

This year the main theme is about wildlife friendly gardening and the gardeners are joining forces with members of the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, who will be on hand to provide inspiration and practical advice.

In addition to various refreshment stops and plant stalls, the gardens will also be hosting pop up art displays including paintings by local artists and an outdoor sculpture gallery.

Ross Open Gardens is being organised by Wendy and Andrew Leeman who said: “We are so excited to be involved with the event again this year. It is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the talents of the local gardening community whilst raising funds for such an important local cause.

“We continue to be amazed and delighted by the range of skills and expertise offered by those opening their gardens. We are very grateful not only to the gardeners, but also the hidden army of more than 100 people who have volunteered in so many different ways to make the weekend possible this year. Thank you all very much for your help.”

All proceeds will go to the Friends of St Mary’s to support the development of St Mary’s Church as a community facility.

Further details and tickets for entry to all of the gardens throughout the weekend can be found on the Friends of St Mary’s website fosmross.org.uk/gardens.

Tickets will also be on sale from a number of venues including St Mary’s Church and will be available on the day at the car park entrance.
