International organ virtuoso, Olivier Latry, will be giving a concert at Hereford Cathedral on Tuesday, September 6th at 7.15pm.

Monsieur Latry is organist at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, and has dazzled audiences in over 50 countries. He is particularly known for his playing of music by French composers such as Louis Vierne and Olivier Messiaen, whose Apparition de l’église eternelle (Vision of the Eternal Church) features in the concert.

Geraint Bowen, director of music at Hereford Cathedral, said: "Olivier is an extraordinary player, one of the two or three finest in the world, and this will be a great opportunity to hear him play our wonderful Willis organ. No-one should miss this concert!"

Monsieur Latry is also renowned for his skill as an improviser, and will be ending the evening with a piece improvised on themes given to him just beforehand.

Other pieces in the concert include the great Passacaglia in C minor by J S Bach, Debussy’s beautiful La cathédral engloutie and the famous La danse macabre by Saint-Saëns.

Tickets, priced at £15 (£6 for students) are available from the cathedral shop. To book, call 01432 374210.
