The delighted family of five-year-old Oscar Saxelby - Lee have thanked everyone who registered as a stem cell donor following their appeal, as Oscar has now received his life saving transplant.
They said: “Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to everyone who registered and to Oscar’s personal donor who has given him a life saving transplant!”
Oscar’s Great Aunt, Mandy Robinson, who lives in Ross-on-Wye also persuaded dozens of people to take a swab test and join the register.
Oscar’s parents said: “Very emotional day here on ward 19 but also a very happy one! From the amount of stem cells you can see you would think ‘how on earth can that make a difference?!’ But it’s all about quality not quantity! These cells are special, the most special blood cells we have and we have every hope this will save our beautiful boy.”
Oscar was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia at Christmas and has been in hospital undergoing treatment ever since.
