In just over three weeks, people up and down the country and across Herefordshire have raised just over £500,000 for the Oscar Saxelby-Lee Appeal.

From children donating their pocket money, long bike rides and marathons, residents taking part in head shaves, and businesses donating their entire day’s takings, the support of the community has been amazing.

Oscar’s appeal was launched after his parents Olivia Saxelby and Jaime Lee received the devastating news that Oscar’s T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) had returned following his bone marrow transplant. At this point, they were told that there were no further curative options available on the NHS for his type of leukaemia.

One of the potential treatments was Car-T therapy in Singapore. (Currently, in the UK, Car-T therapy is already available for children with the more common B cell ALL, but not for children with the harder to treat T-cell ALL).

Oscar’s family say it has been heart-warming to see schools, businesses, individuals and even children giving all they can. "We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts - you are truly amazing!"The youngster will now fly to Singapore to undergo potentially life-saving CAR-T cell therapy and a second bone marrow transplant in a bid to save his life.
