A pedestrian and motorcyclist were tragically killed on Thursday, September 27th in a collision on the A40 near Ross-on-Wye.

Investigating officers from West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses to this fatal collision to come forward.

A red Yamaha motorbike was travelling on the A40 shortly after 8pm on Thursday, September 27th. After passing the turning for Whitchurch village and approaching Symonds Yat petrol station, it is understood to have been in collision with a pedestrian.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, and the pedestrian, a man in his 30s, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

The two men have been named locally as Tom Wheeler and Rob Boyd. Mr Wheeler, who was married with a child, worked at 187 Tattoo in Whitchurch. Mr Boyd worked at Timpsons on Gloucester Road, Ross-on-Wye.

The road was closed in both directions between the B4164 Whitchurch and the A49 Bridstow for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Both the motorist and the pedestrian’s next of kin have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.

Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews found a motorcyclist who had suffered very serious injuries. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A short distance away a second man was found, and again, sadly, nothing could be done to help him and he was also confirmed dead at the scene.”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
