WHILE the Phoenix Theatre in Ross-on-Wye is known for its productions, its group of singers are currently rehearsing for their upcoming show ‘The Magical Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber’ which opens this week.
The Phoenix Theatre Singers are the theatre’s singing group which hosts concerts and shows several times a year.
The range of music they perform is extensive but not surprisingly has a focus on songs from the world of musical theatre and movies.
The singing group’s upcoming show opens on Thursday June 25 and runs until Saturday June 27 at the theatre which is tucked away in the old fire station between St Mary’s Church and the Royal Hotel.
The Magical Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber’ promises to be an evening presenting some of the most popular tunes from the pen of this prolific composer.
Writing for over 50 years, Andrew Lloyd Webber is arguably the best known impresario of musical theatre.
He has shaped modern musicals with genre-blending scores which have dominated The West End and Broadway for decades. He has collaborated with many lyricists notably Tim Rice who he worked with for ten years at the beginning of his career.
With solo’s, duets and group medleys, the singers will present music from Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat, Evita, Cats, Starlight Express, Song and Dance, The Phantom of The Opera, Sunset Boulevard, and The Beautiful Game.
A blend of well known, and less often heard tunes, are guaranteed to have you humming along!
If you’re new to the Phoenix Theatre, they are an award-winning group, performing in their own theatre, now is the time to come along and enjoy one of our performances.
Tickets are available from Rossiter’s Bookshop, High Street in Ross, or online: phoenix-theatre.org.uk/box-office.
