Residents who have twice battled against Vodafone's plans to install a 15 metre phone mast near to the children's play area at the junction of Fernbank Road and Eastfield Road have been celebrating since Herefordshire Council refused it last week.

The application to install a 15 metre high Saturn 411T replica telegraph pole, housing six antennae within a GRP shroud with a shared radio equipment cabinet, an electrical meter cabinet and ancillary development was rejected on Wednesday, May 12th. The reasons given for refusal were that because of its height and the nature of the site it would be unduly prominent and therefore detrimental to the quality of the attractive, established residential character of the local area.

Local residents had led a well organised campaign and they were supported by many local Councillors, both town and county, as well as the parliamentary candidates before the General Election.
